It appears that Embracer and Sony Interactive Entertainment are scrubbing the internet clean of all traces of the Ktar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic that they can.
As noticed by Twitter user Azzatru the announcement trailer has been made private, while tweets advertising it have also been removed.
Below you can see the original Tweet on the PlayStation account made when the remake was announced. It's now gone and can be found only via the cached version.
If you're unfamiliar with the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, it was announced in September 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase.
It was initially in development by Aspyr Media and was supposed to come out for PS5 and PC, likely as a timed console exclusive.
Last year, Embracer revealed that Aspyr had been taken off the project, and development duties were shifted to another studio within the company.
Since then, we haven't heard any specific news on the embattled Remake, and today fans are fearing that it has been canceled for good.
The other possibility, perhaps a bit too optimistic, is that the change of the developer perhaps combined with a heavy rebranding makes the old trailer and social media post obsolete, so they're being removed in view of a re-reveal.
That being said, I'm not holding my breath on the latter option. Recently Embracer is undergoing a strict restructure of its finances, resulting in game cancellations and studio closures.
Considering that the KOTOR Remake already seemed to suffer from a troubled development, it's not unlikely that it may have fallen under the axe.
We have reached out to Embracer to ask for a comment and we'll update this post if we hear back.
If you're unfamiliar with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, it's an RPG series originally developed by Bioware, which debuted in 2003 and received a sequel in 2004.
Its story and settings have then been expanded in the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2011.
