Today, during Microsoft's Developer Direct event, the house of Xbox, Bethesda, and MachineGames finally revealed the much-teased next Indiana Jones gameIndiana Jones and the Great Circle.

The game is coming in 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass, and it's in the works by the developers of the Wolfenstein series with Todd Howard himself as the executive producer.

It's a single-player first-person action-adventure game, but cutscenes and some traversal parts are in third-person.

Interestingly, Lucasfilm's grizzled hero appears to have an appearance at least very close to that of Harrison Ford, but he will be voiced by Troy Baker, who has certainly done a great job matching the original actor's voice.

The game is set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. You can forget the Cold War and the Soviets. We're going back to Indy's golden age of punching nazis, which MachineGames certainly is familiar with. They're led by the enigmatic villain Emmerich Voss, while our hero will find an ally in the reporter Gina.

Among the settings of this globe-trotting adventure, we'll find the iconic Marshall College, the Vatican, Egypt, the Himalayas, and more.

As you can see in the gameplay reveal above, the iconic whip is Indiana Jones' main tool. It can be used to distract, disarm, and attack enemies, as well as traverse the environment. Gameplay includes stealth-based infiltration first-person combat, and plenty of puzzles.

In terms of environments, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle includes a mix of narrative-driven linear gameplay and open-area maps, so there will be plenty of chances for players to explore without being led around by the nose. On the other hand, there will be directions to follow as this isn't fully an open-world game.

Below you can also enjoy a bunch of screenshots.

If you're not familiar with the game, it was originally announced in 2021, but today is the first time we hear anything less vague than the fact that it exists and it's an Indiana Jones game in development at MachineGames.

Arguably, what we just saw was worth the wait.
