Hideki Kamiya Quitting PlatinumGames With His Figures

Today former PlatinumGames executive vice president and chief game designer Hideki Kamiya provided more details about his departure (which was announced last month) and his future plans.

Kamiya-san posted a video on his newly opened YouTube channel and he did so in the familiar Kamiya-san flavor, so expect it to be pretty light-hearted and entertaining.

We see him leaving the PlatinumGames offices in Osaka, Japan, with a box full of figures and toys portraying Ultraman, Mazinger Z, Bayonetta, and more popular characters, and then sit on a lawn to provide some details that his fans may want to know.

This is what you call "quitting in style."

Kamiya-san explains that he left because he wanted to follow his beliefs as a game developer, choose the path he believes is right, and move on.

He also promises once more that he is not quitting the industry and he will continue to create games. Yet, we learn that he won't be able to work in the gaming industry for a year (likely due to a non-complete contractual clause), so it'll take a while before he can provide good news.

Yet, while it'll take time, Kamiya-san is confident that he'll make it happen.

He also mentions that he's open to offers from any company willing to pay him a salary of over 100 million yen a year (approximately $670,000 at the current exchange rates) and encourages those with potential offers to reach out.

He also mentions that he plans to post videos on his channel, but they will be about things he likes to do and won't have any educational value for those who want to learn about the gaming industry.

You can watch the video in full below, and have a smile at Kamiya leaving for the unemployment office on a Lamborghini Countach.

If you're unfamiliar with Hideki Kamiya's work, he debuted as Game Director at Capcom on Resident Evil 2

He also worked on many popular games at Capcom, Clover Studio, and PlatinumGames like Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, The Wonderful 101, the Bayonetta series, and the canceled Scalebound for Microsoft.

Before his departure, he was working on a superhero game code-named Project G.G, but we don't know what will happen to that project.
