The Hard West 2 beta is now available on Steam, and will be available until June 5th, 2022. The Hard West 2 beta will include a "small snippet form the game's full campaign" and also introduces some of the abilities that players will learn throughout the game. The player takes the shoes of Gin Carter, who raids a "ghost train" and ends up being personally haunted by the devil. To save his soul, Carter will have to explore frozen wastelands and lawless border towns in a Wild West that's ruled by darkness and in a desperate battle against the living and undead.
New to the sequel is the Bravado system, which activates whenever a character kills an enemy. It can be used to replenish action points in cover, on the offensive, or with stylish combo kills. The fighting takes place in dynamic environments, so one battle can see players fighting on horseback or during a train robbery. After all, the game is set in the Wild West and not the Tame West. Heh.
Players will also be able to upgrade their gang members via mysterious playing cards. Weapons, explosives, ammunition, or even whiskey can be upgraded, and players will be in charge of armed outlaws, witches, and other mysterious beings, so there's a decent amount that will have to be managed throughout the course of the campaign.
The game will also see the talents of voice actors such as Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series), Darien Sills-Evans (Days Gone), and Adam Gifford (The Colony). BAFTA Award winner Jason Graves (Dead Space) is doing the soundtrack, so it looks like this time Hard West 2 might be pretty good compared to the resounding shrug the gaming industry gave to the original. It did sell over 500,000 copies, so we'll have to see how this goes.
