A trippy scene in Recompile

Phigames' hacking-themed platformer Recompile is on its way to PlayStation 5. The devs are promising that the PS5 version of the game, which has also been announced for PC via Steam, will be a "visual extravaganza" on Sony's newest console.

Recompile sees you take control of a sentient virus attempting to escape deletion. You must infiltrate the digital world of The Mainframe in order to be the first AI virus to achieve sapience and bring about a technological singularity. How you accomplish that goal will be entirely up to you, with plenty of challenges offering up multiple solutions to overcome them. You can check out a new trailer for Recompile right here:

How will gameplay work in Recompile?

According to Phigames, you'll have multiple options for solving many of Recompile's problems. It's possible to go all-out in combat and simply shoot your problems to death. Alternately, you could hack enemies to turn them against one another, or hack your environment to give you a crucial edge in combat and exploration. If you build up your traversal abilities, there are even several problems within the game that you can bypass entirely. The Mainframe will be a freely-explorable open-world hub full of non-linear challenges to check out, so figuring out how to approach them will be an integral skill.

Recompile is currently listed for a 2020 release on its Steam page. We're hoping that the PlayStation 5 version comes this year, too, although we don't have any news yet on exactly when Phigames' platformer will launch. Stay tuned for more info on this one as and when we get it.
