Samurai Maiden

Leading Japanese publisher D3Publisher and developer Shade Inc have announced Samurai Maiden, a game where players will slay undead and establish relationships. You'll play as Tsumugi Tamaori, a high school student summoned in her sleep to the historic Sengoku period. With her amazing sword skills and her new friends, Tsumugi will attempt to defeat the evil that's been unearthed at the Honnoji Temple. Samurai Maiden arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam sometime this winter.

What else can I expect from Samurai Maiden?

The hack and slasher will see players waking up alongside Oda Nobunaga, who is regarded as the first Great Unifier in Japan. The underworld has been opened at the Honnoji Temple, and Tsumugi finds herself fighting the undead using a blade gifted to her by Nobunaga. Tsumugi will use combination attacks and counters to defeat the zombies and tough bosses that she'll face, but she won't do it alone.

Undead
These undead won't slay themselves.

In order to maximize abilities, you'll need to build and maintain relationships with three friendly ninjas in the Honnoji Temple, spending time with them while you're not hacking your way through hordes of enemies. The combat seems fairly similar to Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, which also has players slaying scores of foes in satisfying hack-and-slash combat.

Here's a rundown of the three ninjas that Tsumugi will form bonds with. First off, there's Iyo, a hardworking ninja. You'll also meet Hagane, an older ninja with a mechanical body, and Komimi, who is a genius with a unique jutsu. Players will be able to use the Gokage System, which will combine Tsumugi's sword attacks with the ninja's she's traveling with. In a rather unusual mechanic for a hack-and-slasher, there are also unlockable abilities that will require the team trusting each other in order to use the Devoted Heart technique in battle, and to do so requires "locking lips". Hey, if it works...

If you're looking for other unusual dating sims in the meantime, there's Hooked on You, the Dead by Daylight dating sim, or Sucker for Love, an eldritch dating sim you can check out while you wait for Samurai Maiden to release later this year.
