A full Kynseed release date has been announced. The multi-generational life sim, which was created by former Lionhead execs who worked on games like Fable, will launch in full on Steam on December 6th. We don't yet know if the game will get a console release or not.

The developers of Kynseed, PixelCount Studios, describe themselves as "veterans of the Fable series", and that's very much indicative of the whimsical, slightly irreverent tone you can expect from Kynseed, as well as the ambition on display. The game has you planting an acorn and growing a literal "family tree", raising a family and following its progress over generations.

Together with the rest of your family, you'll run your own business as a blacksmith, apothecary, or any number of other professions. You can also venture out into the world of Quill to take on monsters and unlock its myriad secrets. This, according to developer Neal Whitehead, is "the game [he's] always dreamed of making". This might well be more Fable than the upcoming Fable reboot proves to be.

I imagine this character declaring civilization a failure and striding out into the wilderness to live a subsistence lifestyle.

Just like in FableKynseed promises the ability to do pretty much whatever you like. If you don't want to engage with the combat, that's fine; you can farm the land, explore, and run your business without killing any gribblies. On the other hand, if you'd rather adventure out and not worry about the economic side of things, you can do that as well.

Kynseed's got a pretty impressive pedigree behind it. Not only is it being worked on by former Fable alumni, but it also boasts the involvement of Ian Livingstone, co-creator of Fighting Fantasy and one of the founders of Games Workshop. He was also one of the driving figures behind Eidos Interactive, which has been on its own long, strange journey in recent months.

You can pick up Kynseed via Steam Early Access right now for $24.99. If you'd rather wait for the full release, it's coming on December 6th, and it doesn't look like PixelCount intends to raise the price.
