Back in August veterans of the industry from Starbreeze, Blizzard, Treyarch, and Infinity Ward joined together to create a new video game development company called First Contact Entertainment. This studio was formed with a focus on "creating narrative-driven VR games & experiences with the highest production values" hoping to become one of the top AAA VR game development teams in the industry. Earlier today they announced their first VR game ROM: Extraction that will be coming to both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift soon.
ROM: Extraction will have players fighting against a defense system that they've triggered while attempting to extract a highly volatile energy matter on their latest mission. The game will be set in the far future and will allow players to use all kinds of future technologies to defend themselves from the oncoming attack. To add strategy to the gameplay this advanced weaponry will also allow you to bend the laws of time and physics to give you an edge. ROM: Extraction is said to have "intuitive, motion-based controls" and will come with multiple difficulty settings and leaderboards so you can see where you compare to your friends and rivals.
After the announcement of ROM: Extraction co-founder and president of First Contact Entertainment had the following to say about their title:
With the announcement of our first title, ROM: Extraction, we are excited to be pushing the medium forward by exploring new methods of VR gameplay, the game is inspired by classic arcade shooters, but adds several modern twists—such as the ability to slow down time combined with action-based movements of skill and timing unique only to VR. We look forward to sharing our innovations with the VR community, and can’t wait to get their feedback.More information on ROM: Extraction and the release date should be revealed shortly and if you want to keep up to date with the announcement then you can check out First Contact Entertainment via Facebook and Twitter.
