Capcom is nothing if not opportunistic. When the ill-fated Mighty No. 9 started making waves, we heard the first rumbling about the Mega Man Legacy Collection. As other fighting games started to steal the spotlight, the time was right to bring Street Fighter 2 to modern consoles. Twice. Not that I'm complaining, more old games should be widely available for legal procurement, and Capcom has an extensive library. Still, it's hard not to look at the reveal of the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle and wonder if they're trying to beat Streets of Rage 4 to the punch.
Announced at the latest Nintendo Direct, the arcade collection includes this list of seven Capcom classics.
- Final Fight (1989)
- The King of Dragons (1991)
- Captain Commando (1991)
- Knights of the Round (1991)
- Warriors of Fate (1992)
- Armored Warriors (1994)
- Battle Circuit (1997)
Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 18th for $19.99.
Quick TakeOutside of Final Fight, a lot of current players may find the collection obscure. Although, fighting game fans may remember Captain Commando as the besuited man from Marvel vs. Capcom with a flamethrower and the ability to call in a spinning knives mummy. Take it from an old arcade lover, anyone who enjoys arcadey action is going to have a lot of fun digging through this collection. Here's hoping for a second round at some point down the line once they figure out the licensing surrounding Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Alien vs. Predator!
