If you've been waiting for a Dyson Sphere Program combat system update to liven up your factory-building efforts, then you're in luck.
Developer Youthcat Studio and publisher Gamera Games have revealed that a major December update for the game, titled Rise of the Darkfog, will add just such a system.
Prior updates for the game have added features like a sandbox mode, new system types, and blueprints, but Rise of the Darkfog is altogether more sinister, upping the stakes significantly.
You'll now have to build defensive towers to protect against the titular Darkfog, which will swarm your factories, especially as you make progress and become more technologically advanced.
To protect against your enemies, not only will you have access to defensive facilities, but you'll also be able to construct a planetary shield that will fend off Gunrider fleets trying to attack you from a great distance.
The Rise of the Darkfog update for Dyson Sphere Program will also introduce new post-battle damage models for structures, which will give you more visual feedback regarding what needs to be fixed.
A new Auto-Rebuild system will also ensure that you don't have to run around manually fixing things yourself; you can leave that up to your drones, which will automatically reconstruct destroyed buildings.
Looking ahead to 2024, Youthcat is planning to implement a space combat system into Dyson Sphere Program, allowing you to take the fight to the Darkfog.
Further updates will add "ultimate weapons" to the game as well, which sounds rather imposing. Hopefully, you won't be able to accidentally wipe out all of your facilities with those weapons.
Dyson Sphere Program is a sci-fi factory management sim that sees you building and automating factories across a procedurally generated universe.
The game is available on PC via Steam Early Access right now. No full release date has been announced yet, but Rise of the Darkfog arrives sometime in December. Stay tuned for more.
