DCS World A10 Over Afghanistan

Eagle Dynamics announced that the newest big map for its popular military flight simulator DCS World is available for pre-orders, and it's Afghanistan.

The map will be released in early access in June 2024 and can be pre-purchased in two different varieties.

The full version costs $48.99 (it'll cost $69.99 after release) and it includes the whole country. If you prefer something more compact and more affordable, you can get only the Southwestern portion for $23.99 (it'll be $29.99 after release).

The full map includes 1,449,216 square kilometers of terrain and 24 airfields, while the smaller version has 471,381 square kilometers of terrain and 12 airfields.

Here's what Eagle Dynamics promises when the early access of the map hits:

  • The entirety of Afghanistan with the southwestern portion available in high detail at Early Access release.
  • High resolution terrain mesh, textures and objects provide a realistic map from low to high altitude.
  • Numerous, authentically modelled airbases like Kandahar and Herat.
  • Diverse terrain ranging from towering mountains to vast deserts.
  • Recreate battles spanning the last 40 years.

The announcement came with a trailer, and if you know DCS World, you likely know that Eagle Dynamics knows how to make good trailers. It certainly provides a good look at Afghanistan's iconic rugged terrain.

You can watch it below.

If you're unfamiliar with DCS World, it's a highly realistic free-to-play military flight simulator available exclusively for PC. You can get it both on Eagle Dynamics' store and Steam, but you should keep in mind that when you pick a path, you're locked to it and all DLC are to be purchased on the same store.

With the free-to-play version, you get a basic P-51 Mustang, but enjoying the full experience requires additional aircraft and modules that can be quite expensive. Luckily, Eagle Dynamics hosts sales often, and there is a relevant free trial program for all of the modules.

If you'd like to know more about what's coming, you can take a look at the annual new content tease from earlier this year, and the F-4 Phantom, which will enter early access soon.

You should keep in mind that DCS World definitely isn't easy to just pick up and play. While it's very rewarding, you'll have plenty of manuals to study before you can fly the more advanced jets and helicopters.
