Today CD Projekt released its earnings report for the fiscal year 2022.
First of all, we learn that the marketing campaign for the upcoming expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 titled "Phantom Liberty" starts in June, so we have a few months longer to wait to hear more about it.
On top of that, we get quite a few interesting details about the company's business. At the moment, CD Projekt Red's headcount is over 1,000 employees (of which 700 are developers).
We also see that steam reviews for Cyberpunk 2077 have become more positive, as you can see in the graph below. Unfortunately, in March 2022 the game was review-bombed due to the closure of sales in Russia and Belarus as a consequence of the invasion of Ukraine.
The next data point shows the continued sales for the developer's games, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and more.
We then get an update about the allocation of CD Projekt's development teams. It's quite visible that the percentage dedicated to the next mainline Witcher game, code-named Polaris, is increasing steadily.
Speaking of the pure financial results, we see that sales are up 7% year-on-year, gross profit is up 11% year-on-year, and net profit is up 66% year-on-year. We also hear that a large part of said profit, over 200 million PLN (over $46 million) has been reinvested in the studio's future project.
Unfortunately, the company's profits have been impacted negatively by the reevaluation of Project Sirius, a game in the Witcher franchise in development at the recently-acquired studio Molasses Flood.
Last, but not least, we take a look at the trends in the company's research and development costs.
Below you can check out a video with chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz, recapping the results.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One.
