Watch out, Armored Core VI, because there's a new challenger in town. D3Publisher has announced Custom Mech Wars, a third-person mech shooter with an emphasis on customization that's set to launch this winter.

Armored Core may have some pretty awesome mecha gameplay, but it's also got a heavy emphasis on a rather serious story, and it looks like Custom Mech Wars will be a lot...sillier.

If the zany announcement trailer is to be believed, you'll be able to build tanks with shapely legs, Japanese commuter train mechs, and, uh, robots with drills for dicks. I'm not making that up.

You can check the Custom Mech Wars announcement trailer out right here. Be warned: it's very silly stuff.

If you can imagine Earth Defense Force crossed with Custom Robo and Armored Core, then you're not a million miles away from Custom Mech Wars.

The game promises the ability to "take complete control" over how your mech looks and plays. You'll be able to build it part for part thanks to the "Omega Customization System", which does indeed look pretty insanely detailed.

Once you've built your ridiculous creation, you'll then be able to take it online to show it off, although naturally, if it's obscene or offensive, you probably won't get very far with it.

Having said that, D3Publisher's trailer does literally show a robot with a drill for a penis (and it's actually called that in the trailer as well), so who knows? You might be able to get away with more than you think.

Custom Mech Wars is scheduled to launch for PC and PlayStation 5 sometime this winter.

Sadly, we don't have a more concrete release date than that, but I'll be watching this one like a hawk. Stay tuned for more information on Custom Mech Wars as and when we get it.
