Paradox has announced a new Crusader Kings 3 initiative that's designed to help new players get into the often-dizzying world of grand strategy gaming.

Titled "Legends of Crusader Kings 3", the initiative consists of a new update that's scheduled to arrive for the game in May, as well as a campaign in the run-up to said update that highlights five of the franchise's key figures.

Each of these characters offers "a unique perspective on the medieval world" and showcases a different element of Crusader Kings 3's gameplay, giving newer players a window into potential playstyles for their own games.

The five characters being spotlighted in Legends of Crusader Kings are as follows:

  • Petty King Murchad, who focuses on Diplomacy
  • Duke Robert, who focuses on Martial gameplay
  • Duchess Matilda, who focuses on Learning
  • Duke Vratislav, who focuses on Stewardship
  • Emir Yahya, who focuses on Intrigue

Of course, you can also create your own ruler with Crusader Kings 3's Ruler Designer, so if none of the above figures appeals to you, then you can always strike out on your own.

Each of the aforementioned leaders will receive a "comprehensive overhaul" as part of the accompanying Legends of Crusader Kings 3 update in May; they'll get enhanced stories and gameplay, and they'll also get new events.

If you want to know more about Legends of Crusader Kings 3, you can check out the official website for the initiative, where you'll find bios for the rulers involved, plus lots more.

Elsewhere in the world of Crusader Kings 3, the grand strategy sim received a new expansion pass earlier this year, which consists of two major expansions, an event pack, and a cosmetic pack.

Given that Crusader Kings 3 has managed to sell three million copies (at last count; that number may well have increased since then), it's clear Paradox has built an audience around the game, but it's nice to see the studio still trying to attract new blood.

Crusader Kings 3 is available right now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Legends of Crusader Kings 3 update is scheduled to land sometime in May.
