Turkish studio RealityArts has unveiled a rather impressive-looking first project. Unawake is an action RPG with shades of Skyrim and dabs of Doom. It's built on Unreal Engine 5 and it's coming sometime next year, so if you like brutal melee combat, then it's time to get excited.

What is Unawake?

As the first project from RealityArts, Unawake looks pretty darn ambitious. It's a dark fantasy action RPG with a focus on melee combat, and it sees you exploring newly-unearthed underground structures to uncover a "dark secret that will change the course of humanity forever". RealityArts' first project kind of looks like what would happen if the canceled Doom 4 project had gone in a decidedly more Skyrim-esque direction; it's packed with heavy-looking melee combat and massive fantasy landscapes. You can check out the announcement trailer for Unawake right here if you want to get a flavor for the game's impressive-looking combat and setting.

Gameplay-wise, Unawake is promising "fast and tactical" combat that will balance raw skill with strategic decision-making. You'll be able to learn over 20 skills and customize your approach to the game, and you'll also have access to a wide variety of weaponry spanning melee and ranged options. Those weapons can be customized, too, so you'll be able to create a character that fits exactly how you want to play Unawake. Here's hoping we're looking at more than minor percentage increases to damage and the like.

When is the Unawake release date?

This is the kind of grand landscape you can expect from Unawake.

Right now, we don't have a release date for Unawake. It's currently slated to launch in late 2023, so it could be some time before we hear from this one again. Developer RealityArts says it intends to "fully concentrate on development", and that talks with publisher Toplitz (whose name you might know from Medieval Dynasty) "felt good from the beginning". Here's hoping that we hear more about this project soon, including whether or not it's coming to consoles. Right now, though, you can wishlist Unawake on Steam if you want to keep up with the game.
