The #PleaseStandBy countdown has lead to its inevitable conclusion. Fallout 4 is the next game from Bethesda Game Studios, the people that brought you Skyrim. Confirmed to be coming out on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, Fallout 4 looks to be running on slightly improved Skyrim tech. The rumored Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game are nowhere to been seen at this time.

46910_2_0From this image alone, we see Fallout standbys like Power Armor, skill magazines, laser rifles, Vault Boy bobble heads, a slightly broken Mr. Handy in the left corner, and of course the always reliable and thirst quenching Nuka-Cola. We also see a dog in the garage, possibly yet another generation of Dogmeat. It would just be lonely to wander the wasteland without your four legged companion.

The trailer casts you as a vault dweller from Vault 111 emerging into a metropolis the likes of which the Fallout series hasn't tackled before. It also gives a glimpse of life before the bombs drop and frightened citizens loading into a vault, which is new territory for the franchise. The game seems to have a lot more color than previous installments in the series, Boston in particular shining with burnt out signs and giant zeppelins filling the night sky.

As seen in the trailer and mentioned above, Fallout 4 is taking place in a decrepit Boston. Or at least somewhere called Scollay Square, which is a historical district of Boston that would still be standing in Fallout's alternate history. Pre-orders for the game are advertised on fallout4.com, but don't seem to be currently available. We will almost assuredly learn more about the setting and the game's release date at Bethesda's press event at this year's E3, scheduled for June 14th at 7pm PT / 10pm ET.

Are you ready to tackle the wasteland? Will Harold somehow make another appearance despite being quite rooted to the Washington area? Are you ready to hear more tunes from Three Dog? Answer these questions and more in the comments below!
