Baldur’s Gate 3 Update Stops Characters From Turning Into Pinocchio-Style Eldritch Abominations

Your characters in Baldur's Gate 3 might be about to turn into monsters, but a new update fixes them turning into the wrong kind of monsters.

A new Baldur's Gate 3 update has landed, and while it's not one of the bigger patches, it does fix some rather worrying (and amusing) issues with the RPG.

Like previous smaller updates, which have fixed things like Gale teleporting players into the void and Karlach losing her head, this one's mostly built around bug fixes.

Perhaps the biggest glitch this hotfix addresses is one that caused characters' faces to turn into "stretched eldritch horrors with pits of flesh in place of eyes". Mind flayers, maybe, but not...whatever that was.

Your friends should no longer transform into eldritch abominations...well, not unintentionally, anyway.

Another fix concerns a very specific crash condition that was caused by disarming an NPC twice during combat, then incapacitating them without killing them when the combat ends.

It might sound like a difficult situation to get yourself into, but if you've experienced a crash because of this problem, it's probably pretty infuriating.

If you've experienced issues getting your characters to follow you across chasms, you'll be delighted to know that "companions not being able to jump when following the player character" has also been fixed. Hooray!

Your vigil ends now, Lae'zel. You can finally jump down from that rooftop.

Numerous other bugs and problems have been fixed, including a problem with some of Gale's dialogue, an issue in which player factions would become hostile towards one another, and a Create or Destroy Water bug.

You can take a look at the full list of changes in the latest Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix right here. Be warned that there are some spoilers in the notes, but they're generally marked, so you should be able to avoid them if you're careful.

Baldur's Gate 3 is, as you might expect, the latest in the Baldur's Gate RPG franchise.

It got its full release earlier this year, having been in Early Access since 2020, and went on to become immensely popular with players and critics alike, picking up the Game of the Year Award at this year's Game Awards.

You can pick it up right now on PC via Steam, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Be sure to check out our review of the game to find out why you don't want to miss this one.
