Embark on an epic journey, seeped in the lore of the Forgotten Realms. Using the 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeon's and Dragon's ruleset, players must leave the confines of their home across the Sword Coast, uncovering a plot against you by malevolent forces as you try to uncover your mysterious heritage.

Baldur's Gate was one of the first isometric-styled RPG's ever made, along with Fallout and Diablo. Players will be able to create their own character from scratch, recruit a party of companions, and traverse multiple dungeons and deadly encounters on the path to level 9. One of BioWare's first games, Baldur's Gate is an RPG classic, ushering in the revival of PC RPG's in the late 1990s.

Baldur's Gate was re-released in 2012 as Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition with some touch-ups, improvements, and additions by Beamdog, including four new characters. This version also included the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack.

In 2016, Beamdog released a new expansion for Baldur's Gate called Siege of Dragonspear that serves as an interquel between Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II.
