The summer drought is here, but luckily there are still enough big hitters on display this August to satisfy your gaming appetite. It’s a big month for ports as usual but there are also a few long-awaited releases out for pretty much every platform.

August 1st

Yakuza 0 (Microsoft Windows)

For the first time outside of PlayStation consoles, Yakuza 0 will release for Microsoft Windows on August 1st. The sixth game and prequel in the Yakuza series, Yakuza 0 uses 2 main protagonists, Kiryu and Maijima and takes places in Tokyo and Osaka.

August 2nd

This is the Police 2 (Microsoft Windows)

Releasing on Microsoft Windows first and on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later in the year This is the Police 2 comes out on August 2nd. This is a sequel to the original This is the Police strategy game.

August 3rd

WarioWare Gold (Nintendo 3DS)

The first Warioware title for the Nintendo 3DS, Warioware Gold is scheduled for release on August 3rd. Boasting over 300 microgames you will have to use both the 3DS gyroscope and microphone to get through this one.

August 7th

Overcooked! 2  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch)

Long awaited sequel

Following up on the huge success of the original Overcooked! 2 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch on August 7th. In this forced couch co-op game for 1-4 players, communication is key to get around this kitchen.

Dead Cells  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch)

Starting out in Early Access May of last year, Dead Cells sees its full release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch on August 7th. This 2D rogue-lite, souls-like, Metroidvania will see you die again and again and again.

August 9th

Monster Hunter World  (Microsoft Windows)

Following its successful release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January of this year, Monster Hunter World comes to Microsoft Windows on August 9th. Hunt, kill and use the monsters around you to build better equipment and further your empire.

Okami HD  (Nintendo Switch)

Okami will see its 7th release since it was first released on PlayStation 2 back in 2006, with a release of Okami HD for Nintendo Switch on August 9th. You play as a goddess/wolf trying to restore balance to your world.

City of the Shroud (Microsoft Windows)

Releasing on Microsoft Windows this year and next year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, City of the Shroud will release on August 9th. This is a tactical RPG where battles take place in real time.

August 10th

Madden NFL 19  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

The latest in the Madden series of games Madden NFL 19 comes out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on August 10th. On the new Frostbite engine, it claims to be the most photorealistic Madden game to date.

We Happy Few  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

British Bioshock

People have been excited for this indie gem for a while, and We Happy Few will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on August 10th. What many fans have been calling a British version of Bioshock Infinite a preview of the game was released 2 years ago.

August 14th

World of Warcraft – Battle for Azeroth  (Microsoft Windows)

A new expansion for the popular MMO, World of Warcraft – Battle for Azeroth will release on Microsoft Windows on August 14th. This expansion features a whole new campaign for fans of the series.

Comic Star Heroine  (Nintendo Switch)

Slowly seeing its release on almost every platform since 2017, Nintendo Switch finally sees its own release of Cosmic Star Heroine on August 14th. This indie RPG condenses the typical 40-hour JRPG formula into a shorter more bite-size package.

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – The Final Season: Episode 1  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

The fourth and final series of Telltale’s The Walking Dead series will see the release of its first episode on August 14th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. This season of the choices matter series will be the last for main protagonist Clementine.

Death’s Gambit  (PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows)

Released by Adult Swim Games Death’s Gambit will see it’s release for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows on August 14th. This is an indie, action RPG.

August 15th

State of Mind  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch)

State of Mind will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch on August 15th. This futuristic thriller plays out in a world trapped between dystopia and utopia.

August 20th

Under Night In-Birth Exe Late[est]  (Microsoft Windows)

Released for all PlayStation platforms back in February of this year, Under Night In-Birth Exe Late[est] will see its release on Microsoft Windows on August 20th. This fighting game based on the arcade version is released by Aksys.

August 21st

Shenmue I & II  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

Together at last

Ported to a new console for the first time since 2002, Shenmue I & II will be released in one package for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on August 21st. This HD port will include new control schemes and both the English and Japanese voice acting.

Guacamelee 2! (PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows)

5 years after the release of the original Guacamelee 2! will come to PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows on August 21st. This Metroidvania which takes place in Mexico stars Mexican wrestlers who can change into chickens.

Brawlout  (PlayStation 4)

Releasing on Nintendo Switch last year, Brawlout will come out on PlayStation 4 on August 21st. This is a fast-paced fighting game for up to 8 players, similar in style to Super Smash Brothers.

August 23rd

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)

Released on Microsoft Windows in June this year, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 23rd. This is an action RPG set in the Warhammer 40k universe.

August 24th

F1 2018  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

The latest in the F1 series, F1 2018 will come out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on August 24th. Developed by Codemasters, this racing game features all the drivers, cars and tracks from this seasons Grand Prix.

Little Dragons Cafe  (PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

Another release by Aksys Little Dragons Cafe will come to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 24th. Raise a dragon and take care of the families cafe business in order to awaken your sleeping mom in this action adventure game.

August 28th

Pro Evolution Soccer 2019  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

The latest in the Pro Evolution Soccer series, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on August 28th. For the first time, Konami has licensed the official leagues to be included.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate  (Nintendo Switch)

The second Monster Hunter release this month, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate will come to Nintendo Switch on August 28th. This port for the Nintendo Switch will include all new areas and monsters for this Capcom RPG.

Strange Brigade (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)

Coming to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Strange Brigade will also release on August 28th. Set in 1930’s Britain you will adventure through unexplored civilizations.

Blade Strangers (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

From Nicalis, we see Blade Strangers coming to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 28th. Blade Strangers is an old-school hardcore fighting game featuring online multiplayer battles.

Firewall: Zero Hour  (PlayStation VR)

This PlayStation exclusive virtual reality game Firewall: Zero Hour will be released for PlayStation VR on August 28th. This is a multiplayer FPS title.

Yakuza Kiwami 2  (PlayStation 4)

The second release for the Yakuza series this month, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be released for PlayStation 4 on August 28th. This is a remake of the second Yakuza game originally released on PlayStation 2. Maijima will be playable for the first time.

Fire Pro Wrestling World  (PlayStation 4)

Released in Early Access last year Fire Pro Wrestling World will come out on PlayStation 4 on August 28th. Developed by Spike Chunsoft, customize everything in this new pro wrestling game.

August 30th

Two Point Hospital (Microsoft Windows)

A spiritual successor to Theme HospitalTwo Point Hospital will hit Microsoft Windows on August 30th. Published by Sega it is based in fictional Two Point County.

August 31st

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)

Released in 2017, the definitive edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2 will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 31st. This definitive edition includes all the DLC and is planned for release on Nintendo Switch later this year.

Shadows: Awakening  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

Releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows Shadows: Awakening will be available from August 31st. This isometric, single player RPG, contains real-time, tactical combat.

Naruto to Baruto: Shinobi Striker  (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows)

The latest Naruto game Naruto to Baruto: Shinobi Striker will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on August 31st. This is an online multiplayer game set in the Naruto universe.
