ConcernedApe, the developer behind Stardew Valley, has put out an update on the multiple fronts of development the game is currently undergoing.
The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game will be getting their second patch sometime in early February according to Chucklefish and Sickhead Games (the parties responsible for the ports). One particularly nasty bug results in save files being impossible to load from. The developers working on this particular problem believe that they have tracked down the reason behind it and the bug shouldn’t occur after this patch. Furthermore, any currently unloadable saves should work once again after the patch is applied – so if you have one sitting around on your system, don’t delete it just yet!
Playism is translating the game into Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Originally, ConcernedApe stated that he felt these localizations would be done by the end of October – an estimate that he concedes was “way off”. The localizations will go into an open beta test on Steam in early February to see how they hold up in the real world and will launch at an indeterminate time after that depending on how well they work out.
In terms of new consoles, Stardew Valley will be on its way to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2017 after the planned Wii U version was canceled. The developers are also looking into the possibility of porting the game to the PlayStation Vita.
The much-desired multiplayer feature is still under development, but it’s a long way off. Most of the game’s development is now in the hands of other people (Chucklefish, Sickhead Games, and Playism), but ConcernedApe is still working on the game himself. At the moment, he is currently focusing on making the controller work better with the menu systems; once a solution is figured out, it will be added into the next patch.
