Stardew Valley PS4 multiplayer has finally arrived several months after it was originally scheduled to deploy. While PC and Nintendo Switch players have been enjoying multiplayer gameplay on their respective platforms, PS4 and Xbox One gamers have been left out in the cold while several issues were being sorted out. Now, one of these two remaining consoles finally has multiplayer functionality.

Why was Stardew Valley PS4 Multiplayer Delayed?

Back in early July, developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone reported on his Twitter that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the Stardew Valley multiplayer were in certification and just needed "a few fixes" before they could release. Unfortunately, those fixes turned out to be more complex than originally thought.

Twenty days later, ConcernedApe stated that the update had been put back into certification following several issues. In layman's terms, this meant that either Microsoft or Sony (or perhaps both) disallowed the update to be pushed until these issues were satisfactorily resolved. Mr. Barone updated players several times over the following months, and he was finally able to say that the Stardew Valley PS4 multiplayer patch was good to go.

Xbox One players, unfortunately, still have to wait for a bit.

This Is Not the 1.4 Patch, and Xbox One Fans Are Still Waiting

One thing needs mentioning: this is not the 1.4 patch that is bringing a bunch of new content to the game including fish ponds, a new multiplayer map, and more. This is the patch that allows people to play with one another in the same game.

While the PS4 version has gone through, the Xbox One version is still having problems. ConcernedApe released a statement about the multiplayer update on twitter.

Hi everyone... good news and bad, the PS4 MP update is going live as we speak, it should be available in a half-hour, XBOX, however, has failed cert again. Normally I'd wait to release simultaneously, but considering the circumstances, I've decided to launch on PS4 immediately. I am doing everything within my power to work with the porting company to figure out what's going on with the XBOX update, to resolve the issue and get it out as soon as possible, I apologize to the XBOX players for this delay and thank you very much for your patience.
You can get Stardew Valley on PC via Steamthe Humble Store, or DRM-free on GOG for $14.99 or your regional equivalent.
