Play NYC, a gaming convention run by Playcrafting with a strong focus on indie games, will be happening on the weekend of August 11-12, 2018, in New York City’s Manhattan borough.

New York City has plenty of events where game developers will set up a booth, but there’s been a strange lack of a dedicated gaming convention in the city that never sleeps. That was until last year’s inaugural Play NYC, a brand-new convention created by the fine people behind Playcrafting. I attended last year, and this year I’ll be joined by some of my fine colleagues from TechRaptor. We’ll be taking a look at a bunch of games from all different sorts of genres and developers, some of which we’ve covered before and some of which are making a showing for the very first time.

Play NYC provides dozens of playable games for thousands of attendees to enjoy.

Play NYC did pretty well last year, reaching over 5,000 attendees in just two short days. This year, the convention will be moved to the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center. Attendees will be able to check out over 100 different exhibitors featuring 140+ different games. Best of all, the majority of these games will be playable right there on the show floor! You can look forward to our coverage of many of these titles during the convention itself and in the days afterward. We recently had a chat with Playcrafting’s CEO and Play NYC’s producer Dan Butchko who told us about all of the wonderful things attendees can expect to see this year.

Exhibitors this year will include Game Revenant who will be showing off their upcoming puzzle game Where Shadows Slumber, Juncture Media with their PvP JRPG AVARIAvs, and Zero Eden Games’ colorful space combat game Galactose: Pastries in Space. A number of special “Graffiti Games” will be presenting interesting interactive exhibits for attendees to check out, too! Although there’s a strong indie focus, we’ll also seem big players at the convention like Avalanche Studios as well as nonprofit organizations like Extra Life and The AbleGamers Charity.

You can pick up tickets for Play NYC at Ticketmaster for $33.00 each or $25.50 each in a four pack. Tickets cover a five-hour block of time, either from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM or 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Play NYC 2018 will be kicking off on Saturday, August 11, 2018, starting at 10:00 AM. See you there!

I've had a controller in my hand since I was 4 and I haven't stopped gaming since. CCGs, Tabletop Games, Pen & Paper RPGs - I've tried a whole bunch of stuff over the years and I'm always looking to try more!
