Pokemon Duel Preview Image

After being released last April in Japan under the name Pokemon Comaster today the rest of the world is now able to download Pokemon Duel for their smartphones. Released by the Pokemon Company this game twists the franchise into a strategy board game where you can face both CPU and real players to become a Pokemon Master.

In Pokemon Duel you collect Pokemon figurines that you can put together in decks of 6 characters. Once you've built your team then you start on the game board. From there the simple goal of the game is to get one of your figurines all the way to your opponent's goal. You will have to plan your approach well as you also need to be defending from any oncoming enemy figurines. Once two Pokemon are facing each other in battle their attack wheels will spin, a circle divided into the probability of using a different attack, and whoever does the most damage will win the duel. As you progress through the game you will be able to unlock more figurines and level up your current ones giving you better chances of winning.

For those who aren't too sure of themselves or their ability to play strategy titles there is also an AI ally that will help you by recommending good moves to you, or if you want to take a back seat it can even perform your moves for you.

At the moment though while the game is available for download it seems that the servers are having difficulty keeping up with all of the players wanting to try out the new game. If you try launching the game at the moment you'll be greeted with a black screen and a message that something has gone wrong.

If you'd still like to download Pokemon Duel though then you can for free on iOS and Android.

What do you think of a Strategy Board Game Pokemon? Do you think you'll give it a try? Which Pokemon would you like to have as a figurine most?
