Nintendo is planning to ramp up production of the Nintendo Switch for the next fiscal year as reported by GameSpot.
The Nintendo Switch has been doing rather well as a console, most recently dominating September hardware sales. While supply shortages have been an issue, the company had apparently overproduced units compared to what the company's analysts required for their sales. Now it seems that the Japanese video game company is looking to step things up another notch for the future.
Sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal have stated that Nintendo plans to crank out 25 million to 30 million units for their 2018 fiscal year which will run from April 2018 through March 2019. The company expects to sell 14 million units of their home console throughout the course of its current fiscal year, and that doesn't include the 3 million consoles that were moved during the launch of the system.
Aside from the sources close to the company, the fact that Nintendo had already increased production of the console earlier this year and again for the upcoming holidays is indicative that this is a long-term move. Extra production means more equipment and more workers, and factories aren't as likely to take on this sort of a job unless there were expectations that this would be a long-term gig.
If Nintendo is genuinely hammering out more Switches, they probably have a reason to do so. Current speculation centers on optimism for some upcoming games, one of which may be a Pokémon game or perhaps Metroid Prime 4. In any case, if you've had a hard time getting your hands on a Switch it might just get a bit easier in the coming months.
