Publisher Devolver Digital announced on Twitter that Metal Wolf Chaos XD has been delayed into “mid-2019.” Originally announced at the PC Gaming Show at E3, Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a modern remastering of the 2004 original, released for the Xbox. The remaster promises “upgraded visual fidelity, refined controls, and gameplay, a new save system” and a whole host of resolution options. The worldwide release will also mark the first time Metal Wolf Chaos is easily playable in English. Though the official website still lists a 2018 release, we can still expect to take command of Metal Wolf Chaos XD‘s mech suit sometime in 2019.
Metal Wolf Chaos is a campy, over-the-top third-person shooter, and something you wouldn’t expect from developer FromSoftware. As the 47th President of the United States, Michael Wilson, your vice-president defects and starts a coup in an attempt to overthrow the current government. Wilson, however, has access to a secret mech suit and takes control in order to defeat the rebels. Utilizing over 100 unique weapons, you fight against waves of enemies, all of whom look to see the end of the world in nuclear devastation.
The road to releasing a modern version of Metal Wolf Chaos was a long one for Devolver Digital. It sold poorly on the original Xbox, but because of its over-the-top representation of American patriotism and politics, it was popular overseas. Devolver Digital began suggesting on Twitter that they would help FromSoftware localize Metal Wolf Chaos as early as 2016. As it turns out, it was only after Devolver’s tweet went viral that FromSoftware even considered localizing Metal Wolf Chaos. Devolver and From have been working for several years to update it for modern systems, and it was only just before E3 this year that we got what seemed to be a definitive tease from Devolver. Even with the delay, there’s a fair amount of anticipation for Metal Wolf Chaos XD when it releases next year.More About This Game
