Iron Harvest, the upcoming alternate history real-time strategy game featuring big honkin’ mechs, is showing off some of the game’s features in a video released on the developer’s YouTube channel.

Artist Jakub Rozalski had been hinting about a game based on his pieces featuring massive mechs in early 20th century settings, and that game later came to light last November in Iron Harvest. The titular harvest was the result of farmings cleaning up the metallic remnants of World War I in a slightly different universe than ours; gigantic mechs roam the land as part of military forces thanks to a bit of ingenuity from Nikola Tesla. Two of the game’s touted features were destructible terrain and dynamic cover and now we have the chance to see them in action in the game’s pre-alpha; take a look at the Tech & Controls video to see exactly how the tech works in practice:

Buildings and structures of any size and shape can be completely leveled. To illustrate this point, a factory and its smokestack are reduced to rubble early on in the video. That rubble isn’t just pretty background scenery, either – the cover in the game is dynamic, meaning that it can be changed based on stuff blowing up or moving around. An example shown in the video is a mech being taken down by a squad and that same squad taking cover behind the flaming wreckage.

A number of other core systems have been integrated into the game including pathfinding, controls, a user interface, and more. The next big step for the game is the implementation of a 1v1 multiplayer mode in Spring 2018. There’s still no word on when Iron Harvest will be released, but the developers state in the video that they’re looking forward to showing off some real gameplay in the coming months. Iron Harvest is slated to launch for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
