Hasbro, owners of many tabletop gaming franchises, have announced the release of an Overwatch boardgame, in the form of Overwatch Monopoly. The game was announced by Hasbro at Toy Fair New York, alongside a new series of premium Overwatch Figurines, and will pit players against one another in an actual firefight spread across a classic monopoly board. Instead of winning by accruing as much money and property as possible players battle each other for points by taking over objectives and collecting loot boxes.

With the release of the new figure line as well as a brand new tabletop title, it seems like a good time of year for Overwatch fans. Blizzard is almost certainly making a push in advertising and merchandising for the game as fans have been expressing concerns over a perceived drop in the game’s popularity in comparison to other popular titles such as Fortnite and Rainbow Six Siege. Though the number of accounts which currently exist for the game might dispute those concerned fans concerns.

Overwatch Monopoly will include 6 characters, 6 group leader cards, 16 objective cards, 9 loot box cards, 4 reminder cards, 1 number die, 1 ability die, 90 plastic HP chips, a premium box and a game guide. You can pre-order a copy of the game now over at gamestop.com for $49.99 with a release expecting in early August of this year.

Quick Take

Overwatch ended up being a massive success when it first released with millions of players worldwide. Even if some fans (and Activision executives) have been concerned over an apparent loss of favor with the gaming community it is a shock that it has taken Activision Blizzard this long to start a heavy merchandising push. Of course, having the backing of Hasbro is almost certainly going to help in that regard.

I'm Will! I collect retro-video games and tabletop stuff! I have a pretty sizeable collection of PlayStation titles from all era's and my board game collection is so massive that I don't feasibly see how I'm going to fit more in my house.
