After having the iconic cult classic Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc come out in February of this year,  it looks like Spike Chunsoft isn’t done, and that’s a good thing. Spike Chunsoft has announced that Danganronpa 2Goodbye Despair will be releasing on Steam on April 18th. Pre-orders for the game will go up on Steam on April 4th, and the game sells for $29.99. If you pre-order the game, you will get a bonus 11 track mini-OST.

The game that mashes Phoenix WrightHunger Games, and various anime tropes brings back the iconic deadly game of deception and murder to a tropical setting this time around. The player will have to figure out how to prove who killed who by investigating for clues that will be used in the class trial. If you don’t figure out who did the killing, then everyone but the “blackened” are executed, and the world will fall into endless despair thanks to the murderous Monokuma. Just like the first game, you’ve got a collection of different characters being the best in the world at what they do, from the Ultimate Gamer to the Ultimate Chef. It brings the characters personalities to the forefront, as you connect on a personal level to those that you may have to say goodbye to at the end. Expect surprise returns, expect mayhem, and expect silliness. Oh and death. Expect death as well.

Danganronpa 2 Magic Essence

The game introduces all new mini-games to use during the class trial, to pick apart your fellow students statements and find out the ultimate truth of the situation. You’ll need to go into Rebuttal Showdowns against those you haven’t convinced, as you play the reflex and timing games to liven up the court proceedings. Despite being in English, the game will have the full Japanese audio available for those who are interested.

Quick Take

Having just beat the original game and working on a review for my own YouTube channel on it, I can safely say that the news that Danganronpa 2 is coming to Steam is a welcome one. There’s a reason why it’s a cult hit, because it’s fantastic, and it’s good to see that Spike Chunsoft is bringing the second one so shortly after the first. Now we just need a Danganronpa 3. And 4. Hell, make it the alternate Phoenix Wright series. I like my mysteries.
