CD Projekt Red has released new information regarding the second playable protagonist in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The developer has confirmed that unfortunately players will not be able to swap characters whenever they want but when the switch is made it will be during an important moment in the narrative.

According to a press release by CD Projekt Red emailed out this morning, reported first by IGN, players will have the opportunity to play as Ciri, the white-haired woman sought-after by Geralt and many others. Her role in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is said to be critical to the plot of the game and going by the latest trailer Geralt is one of several factions seeking Ciri for her mystical powers granted to her by her Elven lineage. Her importance in relation to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can be found in the lore as there is a prophecy around her bloodline. With the world in the midst of a massive war one faction in particular, the Empire of Nilfgaard, is looking for her. The Wild Hunt, the antagonistic group clad in black armor that is the namesake of the sequel, is also hunting Ciri. The press release includes the following:

"With such a deep and developed plot, CD Projekt RED decided that introducing another character and telling parts of the story from her perspective would greatly benefit the overall experience. Adding Ciri as a playable character unlocks quite a few narrative possibilities for the team, though while Ciri is a major character, she is not a playable character in the same way as Geralt -- the game is still about him, his story and how you, as the player, choose to face the choices and encounters in front of you."

According to the press release, Ciri will have her own set of skills and a more agile fighting style compared to the much stronger, slower combat of Geralt. She also has the ability to "blink" or teleport during combat. Check out the trailer mentioned in the article down below. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases on May 19th of 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
