As Wizkids continues to provide miniatures for fans of Critical Role we've received the main parties of Bell's Hells and Vox Machina, a variety of foes from across the campaigns, and now (whether we want him to or not) Taryon Darrington and the Darrington Brigade are available to purchase.

The Critical Role: The Darrington Brigate Boxed Set contains the following miniatures:

  1. Taryon Darrington
  2. Doty
  3. Farriwen Breeze
  4. The Dark Owl
  5. Damian Vadoma
  6. Buddy
  7. Hazel Copperpot
  8. Macaroni Samsonite
  9. Lawrence Darrington

Some immediately interesting notes are that while he was played by Talisen Jaffe as The Owlbear the Rogue/Barbarian of the Bridage is now referred to as The Dark Owl, and that the half-orc 'Bardbarian' Lionel Gayheart who was played by Jon Heder is missing from the lineup.

It makes sense if the original name needed to be changed to move away from an official Dungeons & Dragons creature name, but I'm glad that renaming him to The Dark Owl allows the name to still be Batman-adjacent.

Four of the members of the Darrington Brigade showing off relationships

Starting with the biggest as well as the smallest members of the Darrington Brigade Macaroni Samsonite and Buddy. Great work has been put into the skeletal armor and warpaints that Samsonite are known for. Similar detail has been put into matching Buddy's look to the official artwork.

Details on these minis even extend to the electro-chariot that Buddy carries on his shoulders as the base on Samsonite fits into it perfectly allowing them to work together as they do in The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade. Copperpot, the next smallest member of the Darrington Brigade, has a base that's slightly larger so that it doesn't fit.

Each member of the Darrington Brigade is depicted in a 'ready' state. For Breeze it's standing ready with a blade out, The Dark Owl is standing low ready to lunge forward, Vadoma has daggers raised and knuckle dusters equipt, and Copperpot is playing her instrument.

Some additional detail on Breeze that's a nice touch is the flowing of fabric on her tunic showing additional motion in the design of the mini.

Lastly, the combo of Tary and Doty showcases these characters in a very familiar position. Tary has an arm raised and helmet under his arm as if recounting one of his long-winded tales, whereas Doty has his book out and oversized quills in the ready position writing down all that his creator has to say.

Critical Role: The Darrington Brigade Boxed Set Review | Final Thoughts

As another collection of fan-favorite characters from Campaign One of Vox Machina, and characters that will be appearing before too long in The Legends of Vox Machina, it makes a lot of sense to release this collection.

Without official stat blocks for Dungeons & Dragons players there might not be as much of a need to have these minis but for Critical Role fans and collectors, this could be a fun box set to purchase.

With so many specialized miniatures you might not find as many ways to insert these minis as stand-ins for other characters in your games, but for those that are adaptable, you could get a lot of fun use out of them.

Critical Role: The Darrington Brigade Boxed Set will be available in local game stores and online in January 2024

Review Summary

While it might not be for D&D players the Darrington Brigade Boxed Set from Wizkids is perfect for Critical Role collectors who want even more denizens of Exandria in their collection (Review Policy)
