Google Drive size increased by sharing space

Drive Storage

Last year, when Google Drive was unveiled by Google as an alternative solution to SkyDrive(7 GB free), Dropbox(2 GB, up to 16 GB free with referrals), and various other online storage options, it gave Google users another way to take advantage of their free Google features and add one more bit of functionality to their online experience. Since then, we have enjoyed a free 5 GB of space for files and photos, apart from the 10 GB allocated for the free email service, Gmail. A few days ago, Google announced that they would be combining the space of all the free Google features, to a whopping 15GB allocated for Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos.

Just Beam It

If you’re like me, you send files to other people frequently. Depending on the nature of the files, you may also need some form of security. Either way, the website JustBeamIt makes sending files across the web easy, simple, and secure. All you have to do is drag a file onto the webpage, and it lets you generate a URL that can only be used once. Defiance PC Review

I’ve been keeping my eye on Defiance for a while now. I am a huge Science Fiction fan, and Syfy has always been my home for some of my favorite shows. That said, I watched two episodes of the show, and got hooked. Naturally, the next step was to check out the game. If my goal was to find a game to put down, I failed pretty hard, because I haven’t put down Defiance in over a week. Normally, I’m not a fan of MMOFPS’s, but the thought of a MMO made by Trion in combination with a Syfy show was incredibly intriguing.

CISPA dies in the Senate

CISPA Bill

Yep, you read right. CISPA is currently DOA (Dead on Arrival) in the United States Senate. According to various news sources, the United States Senate will not be bringing the internet bill, CISPA, to the floor. Personally, this is a huge sigh of relief, even with the more recent legislation passing that allows corporations to share information with each other without penalty, something that was formerly protected. But we can get into that another time! For now, the key is that CISPA is currently dead. Chances are, it won’t stay dead, but at least we can breath a sigh of relief for a few months…

Do you back up your data regularly?

back up

If you’re like me, your data is important. Likely you have a few hundred documents, photos, or financial documents on your computer’s hard drive. That’s where backups come in, and why you should back up your data regularly. If you keep good, regular backups, you have nothing to worry about because your data is safe. If you don’t keep good backups, you should consider starting to. If your hard drive dies, or your laptop is stolen, those files are gone forever.

Recently, and the main reason that I am writing this article now, a fifth year Chem student at Rutgers had their laptop stolen(see below). Now, in most cases this isn’t a huge deal, because you can generally replace school files. But a 500 page dissertation that you didn’t save anywhere else? That’s hard to replace, as well as earth-shattering.
