PlayStation State of Play

Sony is back with the first "State of Play" of 2023, focusing on news and announcements about PlayStation VR and third-party games.

The broadcast was teased a couple of days ago, and is going to include a relevant part at the end about Warner Bros. Games Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but there's going to be plenty more to see from other publishers and developers.

Below you can find all the relevant news, announcements, and trailers, in a quick and easy format that will get you up to speed if you'd rather not watch the full thing.

We start with The Foglands by Well Told, an "atmospheric roguelike adventure" coming in 2023 for PlayStation VR2.

Another PlayStation VR2 title is the survival game Green Hell set in the Amazon rainforest, also coming in 2023 by Incuvo and Creepy Jar.

NDreams - the team behind Fracked and Phantom: Covert Ops - presented one more PlayStation VR2 game (which is touted as exclusive), a shooter titled Synapse. And by now you can guess the release window. It's 2023 like the other two.

Archiact presented a sci-fi title for the new VR headset based on Isaac Asimov's books. It's Journey to Foundation, coming in fall 2023 for PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 2, and Pico 4

Last of the PlayStation VR2 group, is by GoodbyeWorld Games and Skbound Games, but it's coming much earlier compared to the rest. Before Your Eyes gets a launch trailer ahead of its release on March 10, 2023.

Moving on to non-VR games, we get another launch trailer for Destiny 2's next expansion Lightfall. You can watch it below.

The super-cute game Tchia finally received a release date, and it's March 21, 2023, for PS5. PS4, and PC. It'll also launch as part of the PlayStation Plus catalog for PS Plus Extra subscribers.

Speaking of PlayStation Plus, the Essentials lineup for March has also been announced, and it's Battlefield 2042, Code Vein, and Minecraft Dungeons.

We then take a look at Humanity, with a demo launching today and available until March 6 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. It's defined as a "blend of puzzle-solving and action-platforming" in which you play a Shiba Inu leading "massive, marching crowds to jump, turn, push, float, shoot, and climb their way to salvation."

While this wasn't showcased during the PlayStation VR2 section, it supports the new headset on top of the old PlayStation VR. The full game will release in May 2023.

Goodbye Volcano High finally launches on June 15, 2023, and you can check out new gameplay and the story in the trailer below. The game is coming for PS5, PS4, and PC.

Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connection is the next game dedicated to the popular anime and manga franchise, coming in 2023 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Baldur's Gate 3 is making its way predictably to consoles, coming to PS5 on August 31, 2023, day and date with the PC version. We also get a video revealing J.K. Simmons playing the part of General Ketheric Thorm.

Interestingly, there was no announcement for additional console platforms beyond PS5.

The next game is an online RPG named Wayfinder by Airship Syndicate and Digital Extremes, with a beta coming exclusively to PS5 and PS4. Signups are open now and the beta begins on February 28

Capcom revealed three characters coming to Street Fighter 6. Two are returning, Zangief and Cammy. The third is new, named Lily. The game is still coming on June 2, 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Also from Capcom, we experience a new trailer for Resident Evil 4. We also learn that a "special demo" is coming soon. The game is coming March 24, 2023 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

As mentioned earlier, we also get an extensive demo of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This time around, the video below lets you take a good look at co-op gameplay. A second video brings us behind-the-scenes with plenty of developer commentary explaining what the game is all about.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases on May 26, 2022, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
