A Genshin Impact Character Surrounded By Mushrooms in Sumeru

Genshin Impact’s huge 3.0 update is finally here, bringing with it the long-awaited Sumeru zone, a new Archon storyline, and new characters and weapons to collect. Along your journey in the new forested region of Sumeru you will surely come across the Aranyaka World Quest. This is a very long World Quest with multiple parts, involving missing children, dreams, and mysterious little vegetable-like creatures in the forest.

While optional, the Aranyaka World Quest offers many interesting gameplay elements and puzzles such as Withering Zones, alongside some great rewards, all while exploring this fantastical new region. Here’s a handy guide to begin the Woodland Encounter: Aranyaka Part 1 World Questline and how to complete The Children of Vimara Village, the first major quest step.

Woodland Encounter: Aranyaka Part 1 has three sub-quests:

Each quest introduces the player to new mechanics and puzzles as the story progresses.

Genshin Impact The Children of Vimara Village - What are the rewards?

Upon completion of The Children of Vimara Village quest, you will be granted a sizeable reward:

  • 30 Primogems
  • 25,000 Mora
  • 3 Hero’s Wit
  • 250 Adventure EXP

This makes not only this quest worthwhile, but the entirety of the Woodland Encounter: Aranyaka World Questline as the rewards only increase from here.

To get started with this quest, head west along the path leading from Gandharva Ville (likely the area you landed in when you arrived in Sumeru for the first time) until reaching a fork in the road. Here, the World Quest Woodland Encounter: Aranyaka Part 1 should trigger, prompting you to assist a female NPC in fighting a small group of Geo Fungi, a new enemy unique to Sumeru.

After defeating these enemies, the NPC will introduce herself as Rana, a Forest Watcher for the nearby settlement of Vimara Village. After a short conversion the Traveler will join Rana on a patrol of the area, officially beginning Woodland Encounter: Aranyaka Part 1 World Quest with the sub-quest The Children of Vimara Village.

Genshin Impact The Children of Vimara Village - How to complete each Withering Zones

After a brief patrol with Rana, you will come across a Withering Zone, a new mechanic added in Genshin Impact’s 3.0 update, unique to Sumeru. This could very well be your first time encountering a Withering Zone, and while Rana does go over the basics, in typical Genshin Impact fashion, the tutorials are often more confusing than helpful. Thankfully, this is a relatively simple Withering Zone with only three Withering Branches to destroy, placed in highly visible areas.

Following the conversation with Rana, you are free to explore and cleanse the Withering Zone corrupting the area.

The goal of this Withering Zone (and all Withering Zones) is to destroy the Tumour of Withering, a red plant-like corruption. To do this, players must destroy the Withering Branches (smaller red branches) with the nearby Dendrograna (the glowing green particles) by using Charged Attacks or Aimed Shots. While doing this, players must be aware of their levels of Decay, the small red bar located above the character health bar. Decay decreases Elemental Resistances, Physical Resistances, and reduces Max HP, increasing in effect as levels of Decay increase. Beware, at max Decay, your party will faint! Each Withering Zone has a different minimum level of Decay, and some enemy attacks inflict Decay. Use Candles of Life to decrease Decay stacks.

Quest directions for Genshin Impact Children of Vimara Village

To complete the first Withering Zone in the Woodlands Encounter: Aranyaka Part 1 quest The Children of Vimara Village, summon the Dendrograna found just in front of Rana. From here, locate the three Withering Branches found around the Tumour of Withering. When in doubt, follow the faint red lines emitted from the Tumour of Withering to locate remaining Withering Branches. For this first Withering Zone, each Branch is in close proximity to the Tumour.

  • One Withering Branch is found outside a house
  • Another can be found to the east of the Tumour of Withering
  • The last Withering Branch is located to the west of the Tumour of Withering

To destroy these Withering Branches, use either a Charged Attack (done by holding the attack button) or an Aimed Shot from a bow user (done by aiming and charging a ranged attack). There are currently some inconsistencies when using a melee character to destroy the Withering Branches with Charged Attacks, with some characters like Jean having a hard time activating them whereas the Traveler has little to no issues, likely due to animations and attack patterns. As such, it would be easiest to destroy the Withering Branches using an Aimed Shot from a bow user.

Following your attack on the Withering Branch is a short delay where a Dendrograna will travel to the Branch and destroy it. Be careful of a small Decay blast that can emit when the Withering Branch is destroyed.

If your Decay begins to increase, be sure to interact with the nearby Candle of Life located between the house and a tree just to the south-west of the Tumour of Withering.

After defeating a small group of enemies that spawn and destroying the three Withering Branches, a Dendroshroom will spawn as the Disciple of Decay. These are tougher enemies that have been corrupted by the Withering, dealing Decay and requiring you to either use the new Dendro element characters (including the Traveler) or to once again collect the Dendrograna to effectively damage it.

Once the Disciple of Decay has been defeated, the Tumour of Withering can be destroyed by interacting with it, returning life back to the surrounding area.

Following the cleansing of the Withering Zone, Rana will praise your efforts. More importantly, Paimon will mention mysterious creatures in the woods, which Rana notes are possibly Aranara. Rana will then prompt the Traveler to tag along with her to Vimara Village to ask the children more about the elusive, plantlike fairies known as Aranara.

The remainder of the quest The Children of Vimara Village is straightforward, packed with conversations and following characters around. Follow Rana along the path to Vimara Village where you will be introduced to the quests key characters, including Alphonso and the three children Subadeh, Kavus, and Iotham. Shortly after, you’ll be speaking to the children and telling them stories in exchange for information about the Aranara. You can speak to them in any order and pick any option as they have the same outcome - there is no failure state for these conversations.

While it’s obvious that the children know about the Aranara and the ongoings in the forest, it’s clear that they don’t want to tell you. With that out of the way, The Children of Vimara Village is complete, and Rana returns to continue the Woodland Encounter: Aranyaka Part 1 questline with the quest Into the Woods.
