A new TTRPG adaptation of a horror podcast has been announced. Specifically, Renegade Game Studios have announced that they will be producing and publishing an official Welcome To Night Vale TTRPG.

The Welcome To Night Vale TTRPG announcement

For those not aware, Welcome To Night Vale is a surreal horror podcast released in 2012. It is written by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, and narrated by Cecil Baldwin. Each episode is about 20-30 minutes in length and was released on a biweekly basis.

The show is framed as a local radio show broadcasting from the desert town of Night Vale. The hook is that many unusual sights and phenomena happen in Night Vale, so much so that the radio hosts treat them with the same mundanity as a weather report.

Everything from secret organizations to extraterrestrial activity at fast-food restaurants to holes in reality opening during PTA meetings are standard fair in this show.

This blend of bizarre and deadpan has led to Welcome To Night Vale becoming its own multimedia franchise. In addition to over 150 episodes of the podcast, several novels and albums have been produced as well as a live show.

Now, a Welcome To Night Vale TTRPG is coming. The announcement came from the official Night Vale Presents Twitter account.

According to the tweet, Renegade Game Studios will produce and publish the game with a release window of 2024.

Renegade Game Studios has experience with handling horror IP. They are the current developers of the World of Darkness series. Their work includes Hunter: The Reckoning V5 and the soon-to-be-released Werewolf: The Apocalypse V5.

This isn't the first time a TTRPG adaptation of a horror podcast has happened. Monte Cook Games was the first with the successful Kickstarter for the Old Gods of Appalachia TTRPG. The studio has announced a similar TTRPG adaptation of the cosmic horror podcast The Magnus Archives.
