Recently, the Kickstarter for a brand new The One Ring expansion went live. Free League Publishing's latest tale for the Middle-earth TTRPG, Moria – Through The Doors of Durin, brings players to one of the most iconic locations in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

And within just four minutes, the project was fully funded.

The Moria – Through The Doors of Durin Campaign

According to the Kickstarter page, Moria – Through The Doors of Durin is a new expansion for The One Ring Second Edition. As the name implies, the expansion will take place within the underground dwarven kingdom.

Moria was a key location visited by the Fellowship in the first Lord of the Rings story. By the time they arrive, the kingdom is in ruins, the halls are overrun with goblins, and Durin's Bane (aka The Balrog) roams in the shadows.

Naturally, this expansion will include extensive lore and rules about Moria. In addition to an extensive history of the dwarven kingdoms, the book will include key landmarks and hazards for Moria's different regions and new rules for underground exploration.

As for GM tools, Moria – Through The Doors of Durin contains some new material. It holds advice on how to run a campaign set deep under the mountain and new entries on orcs and goblins. There are even rules for risking an encounter with the Nameless Terror itself.

Don't get lost.

In addition to the book, Moria – Through The Doors of Durin will include a cloth map of the dwarven kingdom. The map is based on painstaking research of the writings and drawings of Tolkien and is painted by map artist Francesco Mattioli.

If you're someone who has played The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying instead of The One Ring, Free League has you covered. This book will be published for LOTRR, adapted to the game's D&D 5e system, under the title Moria – Shadow of Khazad-dûm.

The different backer tiers for Moria – Through The Doors of Durin are as follows:

  • PDF for $23: A PDF copy of either The One Ring or D&D 5e versions of the book.
  • Standard Edition for $37: A standard edition physical copy of either The One Ring or D&D 5e versions of the book.
  • Collector's Edition for $74: A deluxe limited edition of the physical book, embossed with faux leather. Available for both The One Ring and D&D 5e versions.
  • Deluxe Bundle for $111: The deluxe limited edition physical book, PDF, the Moria cloth map, and an exclusive art print by John Howe. Available for both The One Ring and D&D 5e versions.

The campaign for Moria – Through The Doors of Durin went live today with a funding goal of $22,964. That goal was met four minutes after the campaign went live. At the time of writing, the project has raised $483,407, more than twenty times its goal.

The campaign ends on September 14, 2023.
