Fantasy Flight Games has announced that the Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game will be coming to an end with the final expansion that was recently released. The latest expansion, Under Fu Leng's Shadow, expanded the final faction in the game that had not been expanded before, drawing production on the game to a close.
The End A Card Game, But Not Of Legend Of The Five Rings
Fantasy Flight gained the rights to the Legend of the Five Rings back in 2015 and since then has released a decent number of expansions to the living card, as well as running the official organized play for the game. Now both further expansions and organized play will be coming to end, as Fantasy Flight pulls the plug on the game.
Just because the living card (maybe the dead card game now I guess?) is coming to an end, doesn't mean fans of Legend of the Five Rings need to be too upset, as more games set in the same universe will still be coming down the pipeline. That might be small consolation to the game's tight-knit community since they're about to potentially end competitive play that includes the new expansion before it really got of the ground.
At Least We Have A New Expansion
While the sad news that Legend of the Five Rings is coming to an end sucks, we do at least have Under Fu Leng's Shadow to end the game on a bang. The new expansion will not only introduce a brand new faction but add 271 news cards, and 2 new variants that let you play the game in different ways. It seems that no matter what, Fantasy Flight Games were determined to give fans something to remember the game by, and it's not like it's going anywhere.
You can check out Under Fu Leng's Shadow on Fantasy Flight's website, and keep an eye out for the new games based on Legend of the Five Rings in the near future.
