Recently, Games Workshop have released new information about Arks of Omen. The newest season of Warhammer 40k moves away from large battlefields and into the more confined, claustrophobic hulls of Space Hulks and abandoned ships. In order to reflect this change, the new mission books will introduce a brand new game mode: Warhammer 40k Boarding Actions. Now, Games Workshop has begun to explain elements of this new game mode and how it will change various elements of the game.

Warhammer 40k Boarding Actions Explained

According to a Warhammer Community post, Warhammer 40k Boarding Actions is a mode where smaller armies fight in close-quarters arenas with tight corridors and difficult chokepoints. In some ways, it's a larger scale version of the skirmish-based Warhammer 40k spin-off Kill Team. This mode will still use the core Warhammer 40k rulebook, but with various rules changed or streamlined. the revised rules include measuring around walls, opening and closing doors, as well as unique stratagems.

Now Games Workshop has released new details about Warhammer 40k Boarding Actions. In a more recent post, they talked about how the new mode will affect army lists. First, since the mode takes place in tight spaces, certain units cannot be recruited. These include vehicles, monsters, bikes, and cavalry. In addition, no units that can fly or have jump packs are allowed. Finally, you can only take a single named character unit. As for what you can use, that is more flexible thanks to Boarding Patrol Detachments. Unlike other detachments in the game, nothing is compulsory, which means you can have dedicated roles. Alternatively, you can pack a detachment with multiple units of your choice. Games Workshop has confirmed that the four mission books coming out will include additional tweaks to these rules for each faction, emphasizing their individual strengths.
