CMON Entertainment has announced a new board game crowdfunding project. It is called Dune: War For Arrakis, an adaptation of the Frank Herbert sci-fi novel. This will be CMON's newest crowdfunding project after the success of Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of New York, and their announced English localization of Italian TTRPG Household.
What Is Dune: War For Arrakis?
According to an official post on CMON's website, Dune: War For Arrakis is an asymmetrical strategy board game. It is set on the titular sand planet after the eradication of House Atreides at the hand of House Harkonnen. You and your fellow players control a faction: the Fremen, Fedaykin, or Harkonnen's Sardaukar. You take turns navigating your troops and deploying spice collectors, attempting to control the flow of the precious resource that expands the mind and allows for space travel.
Dune: War For Arrakis is being designed by Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi. These are the same creative leads behind the award-winning Middle-earth board game, War of the Ring. Furthermore, the game will feature an action dice system as well as numerous event cards, ensuring that each game played will never entirely be the same. The game will also feature new art and model sculptures based on descriptions primarily from the book's text as opposed to the two film adaptations by David Lynch and Denis Villeneuve respectively. As Nepitello explains,
Dune: War for Arrakis has allowed Marco and me to once again do what we love the most: look at a story in-depth to find the best way to capture its spirit and put it into a game. And we’ve been able to do it at a grand scale befitting the source material, working with the best developers, artists and producers on the market. We aim to provide an epic experience, while still putting a spotlight on the many individual characters found in the Dune universe.
