Today, Free League Publishing launched its Kickstarter campaign for Coriolis: The Great Dark. This TTRPG would be the latest edition of their spacefaring sci-fi TTRPG, one that would progress the setting from prior major events like the Wake of the Icons. Within seven minutes, the campaign was fully funded.

The Coriolis: The Great Dark Kickstarter Campaign

According to the campaign page, Coriolis: The Great Dark is for all intents and purposes Coriolis - The Third Horizon Second Edition. Players still take on the roles of spacefaring explorers, delving deep into the secrets of space. In this new book, players are part of a new Exploration Guild, founded by settling refugees in the Jumuah system.

Alright, watch your back, we're off the map here.

But things aren't stellar for the new colony of Ship City. While nearby moons contain strange artifacts of lost civilizations, explorers were afflicted with the Blight, a strange plague that twisted their minds and bodies. But those artifacts may hold the key to unlocking the ancient past's secrets.

Coriolis: The Great Dark will contain updated rules and advance the timeline of the setting. As a result, official support for Coriolis - The Third Horizon will cease. This means no new campaigns will be released and older books will not be reprinted. Thankfully, the game's Year Zero system will be Open License, meaning fans can freely create new material.

A similar Open License will also be in effect for Coriolis: The Great Dark. If fans follow a few simple rules, they can create and sell any module they like without royalties as long as it requires the core game.

The Kickstarter campaign offers the core rulebook and several add-ons and stretch goals. These include The Flowers of Algorab campaign box set, official support on the VTT Alchemy RPG, custom maps and dice, a GM screen, Initiative cards, and a Collector's Edition core rulebook with a faux leather cover.

The different pledge levels for Coriolis: The Great Dark are as follows:

  • Digital Edition for $24: A PDF of the Core Rulebook
  • Digital Combo for $43: PDFs of the Core Rulebook and The Flowers of Algorab campaign.
  • Standard Edition for $48: A PDF and physical copy of the Core Rulebook.
  • Collector's Edition for $87: A PDF and physical Collector's Edition Core Rulebook.
  • Standard Combo for $87: PDFS and physical copies of the Core Rulebook and The Flowers of Algorab campaign.
  • Collector's Combo for $125: PDFs and physical copies of the Collector's Edition Core Rulebook and The Flowers of Algorab campaign.
  • Deluxe Bundle for $154: PDFs and physical copies of the Collector's Edition Core Rulebook, The Flowers of Algorab campaign, a GM Screen, and a set of custom dice.

At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign for Coriolis: The Great Dark has raised $300,958, dwarfing its initial funding goal of $23,959. The campaign concludes on April 11.
