Back in February, Glass Cannon Unplugged announced Apex Legends: The Board Game. They stated that, much like Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment's battle royale game, this tabletop adaptation would feature rewarding competitive gameplay as well as ongoing support like tournament play and regular expansions.

Now, the Kickstarter campaign for this ambitious board game has gone live, and it contains a lot of new information to help put both Apex and tabletop fans at ease.

The Apex Legends: The Board Game Kickstarter

According to the official Kickstarter page, Apex Legends: The Board Game is a competitive board game. 2-4 players, separated into teams of two, will face each other on a large map, taking turns to grab resources and weapons, all to help take out their opponent. The last team standing wins. The original game engine and framework used for the game will be the same one used for Frostpunk: The Board Game and Endless Winter: Paleoamericans.

Apex Legends: The Board Game has been in development for two years, attempting to balance both accessibility and depth. The game will include multiple game modes, including co-op, solo, and tournament modes. The solo mode is being developed by David Turczi, the widely prolific designer with over 100 solo board game experiences to his name such as Anachrony and Venice. As for the tournament mode, it is being made in close cooperation with Michal Duda, a notable Warhammer 40k competitive champion and tournament organizer.

In addition, the prices for the various tiers and add-ons for Apex Legends: The Board Game have been laid out. They are as follows:

  • The Core Game for $88: This is the main game. It will include multiple modular map layouts for the Kings Canyon map, and the four Legends Bangalore, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, and Wraith.
  • The Full Team Expansion for $39: This expansion adds support for 5-6 players, allowing for games with three two-player teams. It will also contain new map boards, a new game mode, the canyon terrain type with ziplines, and two new legends: Lifeline and Pathfinder
  • Squad Packs I & II for $33 Each: These packs add new playable Legends and their corresponding components. Squad Pack I contains Caustic, Mirage, and Octane. Squad Pack II contains Crypto, Revenant, and Wattson.
  • Supply Miniatures Expansion for $28: This contains miniature models for Supply Bins, Supply Drops, and Respawn Beacons.
  • Card Sleeves Pack for $17: Dedicated card sleeves for all cards in the core game and expansions
  • Painting Set for $28: A collection of hobby paints designed by The Army Painter. The set will also contain tutorials for newcomers.

Finally, Glass Cannon Unplugged has announced some additional incentives for backers of Apex Legends: The Board Game. Two different collector's expansions, all worked on by certain acclaimed visual artists, are set to be revealed throughout the course of the campaign. Lastly, those who back the Core Game will get the Loba Expansion at no additional charge. As the name implies, the expansion will include the playable Legend Loba, complete with a Kickstarter-exclusive model sculpt.
