It may be true that in space, no-one can hear you scream, but everyone can hear you screw up and cause the death of your friends while you're trying to salvage whatever you can from an asteroid storm. At least, that's certainly true in Void Crew, a new space adventure revealed today by publisher Focus and developer Hutlihut Games.
In the world of Void Crew, humanity has been pushed to its limits by the Hollow, a mysterious aggressor that threatens everything the species holds dear. It's up to you, and up to three of your friends, to venture out into the vastness of space in order to try and reclaim territory for humans and send the Hollow back to the, uh, void from whence they came. You can check out the Void Crew announcement trailer right here.
Of course, while you're traversing space, you'll have to contend with various hazards besides the Hollow, including asteroid storms and solar flares. You and your friends will also need to make sure your ship is well cared-for, patching it up and repairing it whenever it takes damage. Focus and Hutlihut promise that you will die repeatedly while you're on missions, but it's all part of the learning curve.
As you play, you'll unlock new equipment, and you'll be able to customize your character's cosmetics to make them look however you like. Void Crew also supports a "flexible player role system", so each player will have a different role to play according to the mission and what the team decides amongst itself.
All in all, if you're looking for a fun co-op space adventure with lots of potential for mayhem, Void Crew looks like it will provide on that front(ier). Developer Hutlihut certainly has the pedigree to make the formula work; it counts luminaries who've worked on titles like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Path of Exile among its crew.
Void Crew is due to launch on Steam sometime this year. Make sure to stay tuned to TechRaptor for more news about this one.
