Virtua Fighter 5

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown is a PS4 exclusive being remade as part of Sega's 60th-anniversary project with a brand new engine and new online features. It's being developed by an "all-star team" from Sea AM2 and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG).

First released in 2006 in arcades and then to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007, Virtua Fighter 5 has been remade from the ground up, with the gameplay and combat remaining the same but the graphics being rebuilt from scratch using RGG's Dragon Engine technology. This means that there will be new background music for every stage, a new user interface, a new opening cinematic, and new lighting and shadows.

Players will also be able to spectate online matches in real-time, which is useful for both learning how to play a certain character or if you just want to watch a certain player play. There's also the added ability to create Robin-Robin tournaments, with the private and public lobby system supporting up to 16 players and stamps if you're into that.

Originally, Virtua Fighter 5 received excellent reviews on Metacritic, so it's not as if Sega has chosen a bad game to remake. Since it's been a decade or so since the last game in the series, fans of the series must be ecstatic that Sega is finally coming back to its roots in the venerable fighting series.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown is releasing exclusively on the PS4 on June 1, and will potentially be a PlayStation Plus title for June 2021, which may also include Star Wars: Squadrons and Operation: Tango in what would be a packed month.

Thanks, IGN.
