Owlboy developer D-Pad Studio has revealed that an upcoming remaster of one of its earliest games has grown in scope and is now more of a sequel.
Savant - Ascent REMIX, which began life as a simple rework of the original game, is now a "full-blown follow-up", according to a new announcement by D-Pad Studio.
In that same announcement, the developer also reveals that the upcoming remaster-come-sequel will be launching for PC via Steam, GOG.com, and the Epic Games Store on September 15th.
A release for PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices will then follow at an unspecified date. No mention of an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One release was made.
You can take a look at the release date announcement trailer for Savant - Ascent REMIX and get a glimpse at the game's high-octane platform shooter gameplay right here.
New content includes three additional stages, each of which has its own "unique gimmick", according to D-Pad.
You'll be fighting "laser sharks, robotic space invaders and even an immortal samurai", the developer says, and you'll do so with new moves including a double jump, a cancel jump, and "mid-air powershots".
New modes have also been added, including an endless survival mode and extra difficulty levels, one of which is the rather unforgiving-sounding Hardcore Mode, which removes checkpoints.
Savant - Ascent REMIX will also boast 22 new pieces of music from Norwegian electronic experimental musician Savant, after whom the game is named.
The original Savant - Ascent was released all the way back in 2013 and follows the story of the Alchemist, who is cast down from his tower and who must return to its peak by hopping between platforms and firing magical projectiles at his enemies.
The game served as the debut title of D-Pad Studio, who would go on to work on the critically acclaimed pseudo-Metroidvania platformer Owlboy.
You'll be able to check out Savant - Ascent REMIX when it launches on September 15th. Stay tuned for more info on this one.
