In an interesting twist, Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games have announced that three new Star Wars titles will be coming from Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment. These Respawn Star Wars titles will include a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, a new FPS title from game director Peter Hirschmann, and a strategy game that they will produce in collaboration with the newly formed Bit Reactor studio, which is made up of former XCOM developers.

“We are excited to continue working with the superbly talented developers at Respawn,” said Douglas Reilly, VP, Lucasfilm Games. “They have demonstrated excellence in telling epic Star Warsstories [sic] along with best-in-class gameplay across different genres and we are looking forward to bringing more amazing experiences to the galaxy far, far away.”

What are the Respawn Star Wars titles about?

Game director Stig Asmussen and his team at Respawn are working on the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, and there are two teams helping them complete their task. The FPS title has Peter Hirschmann at the helm as the game director, and he has a lot of Star Wars experience from his time as VP Product Development at LucasArts from February 2002 to June 2008, which saw a lot of good Star Wars titles released.

“Building on the previous successes of our EA relationship, this new collaboration highlights the trust and mutual respect shared between the world-class teams at EA, Respawn and Lucasfilm Games,” said Sean Shoptaw, SVP, Walt Disney Games. “Fostered by the expertise and passion within each team, we will create thrilling original games for diverse audiences across the Star Wars galaxy.”

Bit Reactor's Greg Foerstch is at the helm for the third Star Wars title, a strategy game being developed by Bit Reactor and produced by Respawn. Bit Reactor was just announced six days ago, and has developers who've worked on franchises such as XCOM, Civilization, and The Elder Scrolls Online
