There won't be another Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled update coming to the game. The announcement was made by Beenox just a few months after the game's original launch in June 2019.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a racing game set in the Crash Bandicoot universe. Kart racers used to be all the craze and PlayStation's original mascot got his own entry into the genre; it was finally followed up with a modern release last year.
The game attracted some controversy for breaking a promise to not include any microtransactions via a post-launch update. The same folks are working on the N.Verted mode in the upcoming Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. Crash 4 developer Toys For Bob has made a similar promise for no microtransactions for the next entry in the core Crash Bandicoot franchise.
With Crash 4 on the way, one has to wonder about the next Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled update. Unfortunately, Beenox has just announced that there isn't going to be one at all.
We Already Have the Final Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled Update
The final Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled update has already arrived, unfortunately. In fact, we got it all the way back in March.
"Unfortunately[,] the March update with the Beenox Pack was our final update to the game and there is no additional content in the works," read a tweet from Beenox (via ResetEra). "Part of the reason is that we're hard at work on some incredible projects, including making the N. Verted modes in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (which will blow you away), and some other things we can't quite mention yet. All the current game modes and features for CTR Nitro-Fueled, including Online Multiplayer, Leaderboards, and the Pit Stop, will continue on."
The Beenox Update appropriately featured a bunch of Beenox-themed cosmetics to thank the fans along with the debut of the "Wumpa Challenge" system and some other new goodies. If this is indeed the final update, that would mean that Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled only had around 10 months of post-launch content.
