Plaion and Retro Games have announced The 400 Mini, a new mini-console that aims to recreate the retro stylings of the late-70s Atari 400 computer.

Launching in March, the machine will feature 25 titles that comprise "some of the most iconic and important video games of the era", according to a press release.

The 400 Mini will recreate the original Atari 400's casing, keyboard, and color scheme using more modern materials. It's aiming to do for the Atari 400 what the Atari VCS did for the 2600, albeit on a smaller scale.

As well as the machine itself, the package will also include a recreation of the Atari CX40 joystick, but it's been modernized with additional buttons to make the experience a touch smoother.

Of course, The 400 Mini will have more capabilities than the original Atari 400 did; it'll feature an HDMI port for 720p output at either 50 or 60Hz, as well as five USB ports to connect additional peripherals or memory sticks.

The games themselves will also feature save states and rewind capabilities, so they should be just a little less frustrating than their original retro counterparts were.

If you do hook up a USB stick or external drive to your 400 Mini, you'll be able to use it to sideload your own custom ROMs, and cartridge, disk, and cassette ROMs are all supported.

If you're a retro gaming fan, or you've already picked up machines like the SNES Classic or Genesis Mini, then The 400 Mini looks like it'll be one to watch.

The 400 Mini officially launches around the world on March 28th. It'll set you back $119.99 and will be available either via Atari's website or Amazon if you're in North America. You can also purchase an extra CX40 joystick recreation separately for an additional $29.99.
