An adaptation of the latest series of the Japanese anime series Sword Art Online has been announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment America. The new title Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris will follow the story of the arc which finishing airing its final episode only March 30th. The game will put players back into the goth-like shoes and clothing of series protagonist Kirito as he explores 'Underworld' a brand new VR game in the world of the anime. Players will be able to relive exciting moments from the series through intense combat and stunning JRPG visuals, as well as being able to interact with fan favorite characters from the series.

Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris marks the first time in the entire series of games based on the hit anime series where players will be able to experience the story told in the actual show. Unlike previous titles which mainly focused on side-stories or spin-offs not quite covered by the show this time players actually control Kirito as he deals with the plot and problems of the series' latest arc. The player will have the opportunity to live through the story for themselves, solving mysteries and making new friends on the way.

The announcement trailer for the game shows off some impressive action-based combat and visuals that match the anime pretty darn closely. While we have no news on a release date as of yet the game is promised to be 'coming soon' and will be made available on PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam when it releases. Sword Art Online itself will also be returning with the second half of the series to hit screens at some time in October of 2019.
