SUPERHOT is coming to consoles next month.

The indie FPS, developed by the Superhot Team, will be heading to the Xbox One on May 3rd.

It was first announced at Gamescom 2014 that SUPERHOT would be released for the Xbox One, as a part of their ID@Xbox promotion, where independent game developers will self-promote their works for both Microsoft Windows and home console. SUPERHOT is a growing number of Microsoft exclusive games through the promotion. Other notables also being released this year for the Xbox One include Lifeless Planet, Plague Inc. Evolved, and the popular MOBA Smite, which will get a 2016 release for the Playstation 4.

SUPERHOT is a minimalist  first person shooter, where time moves only when the players move or shoot in the game. Part of the challenge of the game is to carefully shoot your enemies without being hit, which has made the game quite popular when it was first released as a tech demo in 2013. Originally conceived from  game jam session for the 7 day FPS challenge in 2013 by Piotr Iwanicki, the game proved popular enough to get a full web-based demo release and a Kickstarter, which would raise over $250,000.

A full-scale release of SUPERHOT for the PC came earlier this year, which has received positive reviews from critics and fans alike, including TechRaptors own Perry Rhuland. The Superhot team is also looking into developing a VR version of the game in the future.

Quick Take

Not much to really say, other than more SUPERHOT is always a good thing. Microsoft is making some moves to try and court as many indie developers as possible to their system, and getting one of the major indie success stories in the past few years to release their game exclusively on the Xbox One is a pretty big coup in the end. Hopefully the game continues to find success on the console market at the very least, but what do you think about this news? Leave your comments below.
