Suikoden spiritual successor is in the works and it's being made by many of the same people who brought you the original game. The Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter will make its debut next week and it promises to bring us a style of RPG that many of us have been sorely missing.

Check out this quick Eiyuden Chronicle Gameplay Teaser to see a development build of this upcoming game in action:

For those of you not familiar with Suikoden, it's an RPG franchise that had a fair amount of popularity in the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 era. Players could collect the "108 Stars of Destiny," a veritable army of fighters, cooks, and craftsmen throughout the course of the game.

Battles played out much in the traditional RPG style, but the Suikoden games were much more than that. Aside from collecting 108 characters in each game (most of which were playable), players also had to grow and manage their own base and sometimes defend it from invading armies. It did a lot of cool things for the day, and now that style of game is coming back — although it's also going to feature some differences.

"Eiyuden is symbolic of my growth as a storyteller and collective experience as a game designer but it’s definitely a new title and its own thing," Rabbit & Bear said in an interview with RPGamer; this new development house is headed up by original Suikoden creator Yoshitaka Murayama. "So everything from the world to the characters to enemies are completely different."

"Eiyuden Chronicle is meant to be grounded in strong JRPG roots, while adding modern gameplay and hybrid visuals," the developers continued. "A deep and enriching story will be an important part of the experience which means a standard linear plot is how it will be structured but I do want to allow players to go off the road a bit too, sort of like you are on a journey that can lead in many directions."
