BonusXP had some rather sad news for fans of Stranger Things today: Stranger Things 3: The Game is being delisted from Steam and GOG tomorrow.

Stranger Things 3: The Game is a classically styled adventure game that is intended to serve as a companion to season 3 of Stranger Things on Netflix. First released a little over two years ago, this game lets you play through the season's events as some of your favorite characters. Now, it's going to be leaving online stores for good.

Why is Stranger Things 3: The Game Being Delisted from Steam and GOG?

Unfortunately, BonusXP had no explanation for why Stranger Things 3: The Game was being delisted from Steam and GOG. Here's the announcement that it put up on the game's Steam Community Discussions:

On Aug. 31, 2021, Stranger Things 3: The Game will be removed from sale on Steam. We’re very grateful for all the Stranger Things fans that traveled back in time with us to the Summer of '85 for this adventure through Hawkins.

If you purchased the game prior to August 31, 2021[,] on Steam, it will remain in your library and continue to be playable.

Thanks,
The BonusXP Team

A similar announcement was made on GOG's community discussions. Adding to the strangeness, the game's Twitter account appears to have been deleted; it was active as of August 17, 2020, and then gone by November 12, 2020.

Typically, a game being removed from sale like this is usually due to the expiration of a license. Dead by Daylight is losing its Stranger Things characters in a couple of months and that situation is probably due to a license ending. Sometimes, a game will be removed from sale without any sequel in sight as we recently saw with Forza Motorsport 7's delisting late last month.

Notably, the game's Nintendo Switch publisher En Mass Entertainment went out of business last year; it's entirely possible that this game's removal may be related to that rather than the expiration of a license. We've reached out to the game's developer for comment and will update this article when we receive a reply.

When is Stranger Things 3: The Game Being Delisted?

Stranger Things 3: The Game is being delisted on Steam and GOG on August 31, 2021. GOG's announcement notes that the game will be removed from that platform at 11:00 AM Eastern Time.

Whatever the reason may be, this is your last chance to buy this companion to the third season of Stranger Things. You can buy Stranger Things 3: The Game on Steam and on DRM-free retailer GOG for $9.99 or your regional equivalent.

We have reached out to BonusXP to find out if this applies to the mobile and Switch versions, as well as several other inquiries. At this time, its probably best to assume Stranger Things 3: The Game will be delisted on all platforms.
